OCHS Student Council Receives Top National Award

For its exemplary record of leadership, service and activities that improve the school and community, the Oregon City High School Student Council has been recognized as a 2025 National Gold Council of Excellence by the National Association of Student Councils (NASC). The NASC program is supported by its parent organization, the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).

Student Council advisor, Tiffani Traver, said, “This year, our OCHS Student Council’s hard work, leadership, and passion for making a difference are truly commendable. This award is a reflection of their continued efforts to uplift our school community. “

We have a wonderful group of students who are kind, compassionate, and committed to creating an inclusive environment at OCHS. I am so proud of their hard work and this honor goes to show their dedication. We are so excited to have earned the National Gold Council of Excellence Award. I am incredibly proud of our students and all they have accomplished. This honor is a true reflection of their passion, perseverance, and positive impact on our school community.”

“The student council at Oregon City High Schol just pulled off something extraordinary,” said NASSP CEO Ronn Nozoe. “Their student-driven change has earned them national recognition as a National [Gold] Council of Excellence, proving that when young people are given the chance to lead, they turn their vision into real-world impact.”

OCHS Principal Timmons says, “I am so proud of the leadership of our student council, this year they have made extra effort in expanding service into the community through active involvement and participation in supporting the Make-A-Wish foundation!”

A student council must meet a variety of criteria to earn the National [Gold] Council of Excellence Award. In addition to basic requirements such as a written constitution, regular meetings and a democratic election process, the councils must have demonstrated successful sponsorship and participation in activities such as leadership development and service to the school and community.
