The AVID program is designed to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college
readiness and success in a modern, global society. It is for students who possess individual
determination, and are interested in going to college. The high school AVID elective class will prepare
students by developing the skills to be ready for college or career. AVID focuses on growth in writing,
critical thinking, teamwork, organization and reading skills. Students will be encouraged to take more
rigorous classes, and provided the tools and support needed to be successful in them. As students
progress through the program, they will have focused assistance on forecasting for high school classes
to prepare for college, explore different post-secondary schooling options, go on college visits, meet
with college admissions officers, prepare for and complete the college admissions and financial aid
processes, and research potential careers. This is a full year course.

with the overall goal of developing fundamental skills aligned with the current curriculum and
preparing students for four-year college eligibility and readiness. The AVID Tutor will help support AVID
students in Tutorial Sessions. Being an AVID Tutor is an asset on college scholarship and college
applications. This course can be repeated for credit.
