Course Selection

  • Accounting is the language of business. Accounting I is a foundational course for students interested in the financial management and operation of business. Students will learn bookkeeping skills, including using journals, ledgers, worksheets, and preparing financial statements. Students will benefit from this accounting class whether they plan to attend college, go directly into the workforce or to keep records for personal use. The second trimester will build upon the skills acquired in Accounting I through more advanced accounting practices for a merchandising corporation. Students will complete a business simulation project. This course is designed for students who plan to continue their education after high school and/or enter the workforce. Students can earn three credits through Clackamas Community College upon completion of Accounting.

  • Would you like to know what it really takes to be successful in business today? Current issues in the business world determine class content. Topics may include: trends in business, owning and operating your own business, customer service, doing business in a global economy, interpersonal relations, and electronic communications. Activities may include simulations, discussions, group problem solving, Internet inquiries, and ethics. In addition, students will hear from guest speakers who are successfully navigating the business world, and even from some who never thought they would ever need a business skill in their wildest imaginations.

  • Learn how to communicate effectively to get what you want/need in a business situation. Students will work with written, verbal and non-verbal communication in business. Topics covered include writing effective letters, email strategies, promotional flyers, business introductions, customer service, telephone techniques, professional handshake and appearance. Employer-employee relations including effective listening strategies, feedback mechanisms, and job search skills are emphasized.

  • The law is interesting, ever-changing, and foundational to our society. This course is designed to help students understand how the law guides and impacts business as well as individuals on a daily basis. In this class, students will learn business and personal law and apply it to challenging and complex problems. Critical thinking and reasoning skills will be used in case studies, class discussions, a mock trial and research projects. Topics will include foundations of U.S. law, the court system, business ethics, business crimes, civil law, contracts, and consumer law. Offered Alternating Years: WILL be offered in 2025-2026 but NOT offered in 2024-2025

  • What do you want to do with your life? High school is the perfect time to consider your career options and take the first steps that will help you find a rewarding occupation. This class is designed to help students explore the many career choices they have and to prepare them for the world of work. Students will develop personal goals, explore interests and skills, write resumes, prepare for job interviews, investigate career options, research educational opportunities beyond high school and the financial aid for those choices, deal with the complexities and conflicts of what a dream job can be.

  • This advanced course is designed to teach students the processes involved in starting a business. Topics include the scope and nature of entrepreneurship, assessing opportunities, market research, intellectual property, legal and ethical concerns, operating a business, business and financial plans, marketing, and launching a business venture. Emphasis will be on the lean business model canvas.

  • Ever thought about why you love one store and never find anything you like in another? Love to shop? Have an idea for a product? Then Marketing 1 is the course for you. Students learn about the business activities that take place in order to get a product/service from the manufacturer to the consumer. Interested in job skills necessary for careers in business or majoring in business, marketing, fashion merchandising, or sports marketing in college? Marketing 1 would be a perfect introduction. Selling, promotion, business strategies, distribution, pricing, and essential business skills are all included. Students will work in Pete’s Place (the student store). Participation in DECA, an international association of business students, is encouraged to help students build leadership and general marketing skills through fun, competitive events and local chapter activities. DECA participants also have the opportunity to participate in leadership conferences and travel out-of-state.

  • Take charge of your financial future! Avoid the mistakes many Americans make by learning important financial skills. Taking Personal Finance will prepare you to be financially successful and help you handle the financial responsibilities of life with confidence. In the course, students will learn how to set goals, use banking services, borrow wisely, make major purchasing decisions, invest,, understand taxes, manage risk, and avoid scams.

  • “You had me at hello!” Sports & Entertainment Marketing decisions and its application are based on business economic problems, policies, and decisions of individuals, local economies, states, nations and international economies. Through classroom lessons, readings, field-trips, team and individual project-based learning activities with local/national/international businesses and organizations, students will gain deeper understanding and appreciation behind the business of Sports & Entertainment marketing. DECA participation is strongly recommended.

Some of these classes can earn Advanced College Credit (ACC) course and is required for several degree programs at CCC, earn high school credit and a grade and also college credit (4 credits) and a grade at the same time.
