3D Art students learn about basketweaving!

The Cherokee tribe in North Carolina. The basket is double walled. The basket reed comes in spools. Students secure the bottom and then begin a plain over under weave pattern. Once the bottom of the basket is established, students pull the weaver tighter to force the spokes up creating the inner wall. Spokes radiate from the center and the weaver goes around the basket to create its form. This formation looks like a spokes radiating from the center on bicycles. Once the inner wall is complete, students turn the spokes downward and weave downward while adding different colors of weavers to create a pattern. Once at the bottom students turn the spokes up and tuck into the basket creating the baskets bottom.
