JROTC Cadet Ball

On February 9th, the Oregon City HS JROTC held a Cadet Ball at Abernathy Center in Downtown Oregon City. This ball shows the importance of learning etiquette and how to behave when attending a formal event. For the eating portion, we learned how to correctly toast, eat using multiple utensils, and execute proper conversation at dinner. There seniors participated in a military ceremony that recounted their favorite memories as they created a punch from a variety of ingredients.

We had many guests that attended the ball.  A Keynote Speaker who is an FBI Agent and a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserves.  We also had a Female Command Sergeant Major from the Oregon National Guard come to sing the National Anthem. There were Cadets from 4 other JROTC programs in the Willamette Valley, Representatives from the Three Rivers Veterans of Foreign War Post, an Associate Principal from OCHS, and several of the Cadet’s Parents.

Afterward, the cadets get a little break from the formal-ness and the dance begins, starting with the senior queen and king, this year, Hayley Bertand and Nolan Fielder were picked, they gave the first dance, which inspired all the others to get up and enjoy themselves for the rest of the ball. During this time, we took team photos to celebrate the teamwork of everyone in the group, couples: took photos before the event by a professional photographer and his wife who also attended and enjoyed the ball.

Overall, I'm sure all of us had fun, as this is one of the many events returning cadets look forward to, eating the food, socializing, and or meeting new people.
