OCHS Student Council Earns National Recognition
Oregon City, OR - April 6, 2021
For its exemplary record of leadership, service, and activities that serve to improve the school and community, the Oregon City High School student council has been recognized as a 2021 National Gold Council of Excellence by National Student Council (NatStuCo).
“Receiving a National Gold Council of Excellence Award reflects the highest dedication on the part of the school to providing a strong, well-rounded student council program,” said Nara Lee, National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) Director of Student Leadership. “NatStuCo applauds the work of the National Gold Councils of Excellence and challenges them to continue their leadership and service to their schools and communities.”
ASB President Taylor Hayes says, ""As a student council this year, we have faced many financial and physical barriers due to Covid-19. I am proud to announce that our council was awarded with the highest honor of a National Gold School. This achievement has required resilience, motivation, and more flexibility than any year prior. Congrats to our amazing council, let's do this again next year!"
Principal Wilhelm remarks about our student council, "We are so proud of our student council, each and every year they represent and support our students at OCHS with such amazing leadership and passion. This year, in the midst of global pandemic, is no exception. Pioneer Pride!"
"I am so proud of our Student Council and all the work our student leaders have put in during this tough year full of challenges. They really came together and continued to work hard to support our student body with inclusive events and activities while thinking outside of the typical box. This award wouldn't have been possible without every single one of our committee members. Congrats OC StuCo, so proud of you all!", stated by the Student Council Advisor, Tiffani Traver.
To meet the requirements for the National Council of Excellence Award, a student council must meet a variety of criteria. In addition to basic requirements such as a written constitution, regular meetings, a democratic election process, the councils have demonstrated successful sponsorship and participation in activities such as leadership development and service to the school and community. Councils awarded the gold level of the award have successfully demonstrated the highest levels of leadership.
